When Linda Clarke first approached us for a website, she had just published her first book, In Two Voices.

We met Linda at a small café in Guelph to discuss an idea she had for getting her works out there. Linda's book had just been released by the publisher, and we thought now was the time to leverage a website and include quotes, clips and other works she had been doing, and that’s where our web design company joined the story.

Before our preliminary meetings with the author, we sampled her book and took an instant love with the creative use of editing and design – the story utilized the page's space to tell a story in a way we had never seen before!  The text flowed and weaved, moving between italic and bold.

Seeing this shared love of non-justified spacing and using the design to tell a story, we all knew it was a perfect fit from the start.

The website needed to focus on the author over the book itself.  It had to serve as a gateway to her works and her story.

The website was set to be a home for her content, along with an eCommerce stored so readers could buy directly from the author.  We also set two work building a blog that would create long-form content that could stand out on it's own.

Process & RESULTS

Our team felt there was something special about this project from the start, and we soon discovered that Linda was as passionate and ready to get her hands dirty as was our team. We kicked off our discovery process as usual with our brand discovery questionnaire to get everyone thinking and sharing ideas. A website for an author is unique in that, for the most part, we’re working with a blank slate in all regards of the project, and our clients rely on our expertise and creative experience to really bring their artist to life.

Understanding the unique nature of this project, we began to collect and collate her myriad of works, spread between Print and Digital.   As a team, we identified what was her standout work and what could be reutilized for digital long form.  Her standout work encapsulated her storytelling style, and inform out design choice for the website.

We wanted her story to shine through, but also allow a portal into her works

1 Creative Brainstorming, drinking tons of coffee, first drafts, discussions

2 Whiteboarding, expanding, Beta Testing

3 Scope increase, long-form content implementation,  website launch
