Origin
The Etobicoke Bulldogs hockey league was founded in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with the goal of providing the youth of the community with a safe, fun, and inclusive environment in which to learn, play, and compete, while promoting community bonds, lifelong friendships and relationships, and intensify the love of hockey. The community commitments are based on core values such as
- The organization builds welcoming teams
- The organization promotes smiles and laughter
- Working together to create outstanding community members
- Result driven programming
Version 1 - Web
When the head of the Bulldogs first reached out to us, they had a very out of date website that was text heavy. They was referred through an acquaintance in the community who thought we may be able to help.
We redesigned the site with a more modern look and feel, as well as featuring images and video prominently. We also focused on making the website responsive. We planned on simply 'recreating' the original site but better, but the process of rebuilding the framework lent heavily into V2 discsussions
Version 2 - Hub
The website was so out of date, the original frame work would be unable to provide a solid foundation to build from. We saw that as a great opportunity to make the site into something more than just a website, but a community Hub, with active standings, outreach programs for coaches and parents, and rosters for the players and teams.
With these changes to V2, the website took on a new life as a Hub for the Etobicoke Bulldogs, and will hopefully serve that purpose well into the future.
MAIN STEPS & RESULTS
We worked on a retainer model to provide on going support through V1 and V2. There was no technical lead or ability amongst the coaches or head office to provide direction, so our team provided a suite of options, variables and ideas to give the Bulldogs a sense of what was possible, where the website could go, and what the budget requirements would be.
To say the organization were happy with the results would be an understatement, but the real reward was the support and engagement of the community. When V2 rolled out, parents and players alike saw the potential to become more engaged with the game, other players and the community as a whole.
1 Create robust framework to recreate old website and future proof
2 Build Version 1 with responsiveness and video in mind
3 Design Version 2 with community and log in features
- PHP
- WordPress
- MBSportsWeb
- SportsPress
- BuddyBoss
Post Version2, the Bulldogs front of house went through a change of staff, and the resulting change led to the website being discussed amongst other hockey leagues in the area.
As a result, we were happy to Partner with the Greater Toronto Capitals to take over and redesign their existing website and social media.
